All required documents must be uploaded to the North Texas Soccer TOC event site by this date.

Don’t wait until the last minute. Complete your check-in early to avoid system delays or missing paperwork.

Checklist for Uploads:

  • Official NTSSA Team Roster (SIGNED BY BAYFA Registrar and the HEAD COACH)
  • North Texas medical release confirmation form (NOT individual player medical releases)
  • Team Information Form

2. Team Logistics & Preparation

🏨 Lodging

  • Hotels near the field locations fill up quickly. Book early.
  • If possible, keep the team in the same hotel for better team bonding and logistics.

🗺 Communication

  • As soon as schedules are posted, share game times and field locations with parents.
  • Include arrival time expectations (recommend 45 minutes before kickoff).
  • Send directions and parking details ahead of time to avoid last-minute confusion.

🎒 Team Gear Checklist

Make sure players come prepared with both primary and alternate kits and weather-appropriate gear.

Game Essentials:

  • Primary & alternate jerseys
  • Shorts and socks
  • Cleats & shin guards
  • Crocks or Slides for after the match
  • Soccer ball (if needed)
  • Goalie gear (jersey, gloves, pants)
  • Ample water

Cold Weather Items:

Sweatshirt, jacket, leggings/under-layers, gloves, beanie, headband, blanket.

Rainy Weather Items:

Rain jacket, poncho, towel, umbrella, waterproof bag.

Pro Tip: Make a printed checklist for families.

3. Player and Team Readiness

Competitive matches aren’t won by perfect soccer. They’re won by teams who handle critical moments better than their opponents.

📋 Leading up to the TOC, focus on:

  • Speed with composure
  • Decision-making under stress
  • Team cohesion
  • Defensive shape
  • Transition (both sides of the ball)
  • Defensive pressure
  • Emotional stability
  • Free kicks, set pieces, and corner kicks (both sides of the ball)
  • Last 10 minutes! Have a well-defined plan to hold a lead in the final 10 minutes or go on the attack if you are down in a tight match.

💧 Hydration & Nutrition

  • Encourage hydration days before the tournament begins; not just on game day.
  • Remind players to drink water regularly and limit sugary drinks.
  • Between games, encourage light snacks like fruit, granola bars, and sandwiches. Avoid heavy meals between matches.

🏃 Conditioning

  • The TOC often means multiple games in one day.
  • In the weeks leading up, increase endurance training and simulate tournament-style back-to-back games.
  • Local tournaments like the Hurst Turkey Shoot can serve as great warm-ups.

🧠 Mental Preparation

  • Talk to players about focusing on effort, attitude, and fun — not just results.
  • For first-time TOC participants, remind players that feeling nervous or excited is completely normal.
  • Reinforce that once you arrive, your job is to play your game and trust your training.

4. Game Day Management

⏰ Arrive Early

Plan to arrive 45 minutes before kickoff. This allows time for:

  • Parking and walking to the field
  • Team warm-ups
  • Lineup review and equipment checks

🎽 Sideline Conduct

  • Coaches: lead with positivity and composure.
  • Encourage and support (avoid sideline negativity).
  • Focus feedback on effort and decision-making, not mistakes.

☀️ Between Games

  • Keep players out of the elements (sun, rain, or cold).
  • Plan light recovery activities such as team meals, hanging out at the hotel, or a team movie.
  • Avoid rough play or excessive screen time between matches.

5. During the Tournament

📝 Stay Organized

Bring your bag with everything you might need:

  • Waivers and paperwork
  • First aid kit
  • Extra socks, pinnies, and cones
  • Clipboard or folder with notes
  • Portable charger for your phone

🔄 Adapt and Encourage

  • Tournament play can include weather delays or schedule changes (stay flexible).
  • Keep communication open with parents through GroupMe or TeamSnap.
  • Celebrate small victories — good teamwork, sportsmanship, or clean play.

6. After the Tournament

  • Win or lose, gather the team and thank them for their effort and sportsmanship.
  • Remind players how proud you are of their development and teamwork this season.
  • Follow up with parents with a quick thank-you message or season recap.
